What better way to send off 2008 than with a brief look at biggest and most pointless political event of the year in Colorado: the DNC protests. Here are some highlights set to the tune of the Glenn Miller Orchestra in the spirit of Abe Simpson:
Very few protests went down today as most of the protesters got bored and apparently went home. Now that the DNC is over and Obama has given his speech, here's a recap of some of RMR's coverage of the DNC.

Also be sure to check the People's Press Collective for even more excellent coverage. Thanks are in order to them for syndicating content from this blog and many others and for covering the DNC as well as they did.
As I was filming the anti-war march outside the Democratic National Convention today, a pair of journalists in full DNC press credentials happened to wander in front of my camera. The two were having a heated exchange as one of them wanted to join the left-wingers in their march and the other scolded her that they are "supposed to be f***ing journalists." The one who wanted to join in ended up taking off her DNC press badges and giving them to her colleague before walking off.

No one was really sure what this group was getting at.
Some old fashioned Fire and Brimstone.
Barack Obama is having a tough week. His poll numbers actually dipped slightly after announcing Joe Biden as his running mate. Tuesday night of the convention consisted of Mark Warner rambling about car phones while seemingly avoiding the topic of Obama followed by Hillary Clinton giving a speech that seemed to be the start of her 2012 campaign.
His problems might get a lot worse as angry Clinton supporters demand a full roll call vote during the convention. Rumors are flying that the Obama campaign wants to conduct the roll call in the various hotels during breakfast instead of during the televised portions of the convention. This isn't sitting too well with Hillary Clinton's supporters.
Tuesday morning they took to the streets to demand a roll call. This was no insubstantial group as can be seen.

I blogged about the anarchists hawking t-shirts on the first day of their protests. Little did I know that it was going to explode into a full-blown enterprise over the coming days. Nothing says "overthrow capitalism" like expanding into a giant Wal-Mart style operation.
Here are the protesters casting spells at the U.S. Mint in an attempt to "levitate" it. They also tossed around some plastic coins. I've taken the liberty of adding a soundtrack to make it a bit more interesting:
The police reportedly pulled out the pepper spray last night during a "riot" outside of the Denver Post/ Rocky Mountain News building. Here is some admittedly crappy footage of the police street blockades around the area that prevented me from getting any closer:
And, in case you missed, be sure to take a look at the footage of 9/11 truthers harassing Michelle Malkin outside the Mint.
OFF-MESSAGE! OFF-MESSAGE!
Preparing to "levitate the U.S. Mint"
Sorry, man. I don't know who you are either.
If RoboCop was a mounted officer...
At today's protest outside the Denver Mint the scene started out uneventful enough. Re-Create 68 started a silly though peaceful protest involving people in Wizard's robes and capes "casting spells" on the Denver Mint (video of that coming later). The protest wasn't peaceful for long as Alex Jones, a 9/11 conspiracy pusher, happened to notice conservative blogger Michelle Malkin wandering the crowd. Jones immediately attempt to do what can only be described as trying to incite a riot. One of the "peace" protesters started chanting "Kill Michelle Malkin."
Denver Police stood by and didnt make any apparent moves to defuse the situation. One would think that when a protester starts screaming to kill someone or when Alex Jones ran across a street at Malkin they might have at least moved in to do something. They crossed the line from admirable restraint in the name of free speech to dangerous apathy today. Luckily for Michelle there were apparently a large number of incognito conservative bloggers in the media crowd who would have intervened had things gotten any more heated.
But don't you dare call Mark Udall or any of his supporters "liberals"...

There was no shortage of insanity as protesters took to the streets this morning in downtown Denver. Here are some highlights of the DNC protest march this morning:
The Pepsi Center, now fully decorated and secured in preparation for the convention.
Denver police wait around Civic Center Park for a protest that never materialized. A line of DNC staffers stretched down Auraria Parkway today as the Secret Service set up security checkpoints at the entrances.
A pleasant respite from the Re-Create 68 looniness, a pro-Israel protester was set up by the security checkpoint along Auraria Parkway. At right, a group holds up a "Free Our Weed" banner in front of the state capitol.
Signs stockpiled for upcoming protests.
Hey, just because they're anti-capitalist doesn't mean they don't want to make a few bucks. During most of the day very little protesting went on around Civic Center Park, though Re-Create 68 had an apparently lucrative business set up across the street from the west steps of the state capitol selling t-shirts and other cheap wares to fellow DNC protesters.
The wide array of moonbat protesters spent most of the day gearing up for the week ahead and hawking t-shirts to one another. Here a small taste of the scene across downtown Denver today where there seemed to be more uniformed police officers than protesters:
The People's Press Collective will be providing content from a number of Colorado bloggers during the DNC.
Check back here in the evenings for photographs and video of the "festivities" in downtown Denver. Don't expect updates during the day as I don't really feel like endangering my laptop by bringing it along.
