ColoradoPols is desperately talking down the growing calls for a primary against Ken Salazar. Monday they fired out a post directed at liberal activists in the state mocking them as "Daily Kos purists." SquareState fired back with a post of their own noting Salazar's surprisingly poor approval ratings causing one commenter to observe:
Wow, that shatters an illusion I also bought into--Ken's supposed sky-high popularity here in Colorado. Maybe naysayers like me will reconsider our contention that it is hopeless to primary Ken (DfL-CO) Salazar.
ColoradoPols is also making the laughable claim that Salazar is a "shoo-in" for re-election and even implies that Republicans won't run an opponent against him. It's understandable that Jason Bane would want to pay Salazar back for his endorsement and all, but let's review the facts surrounding Ken Salazar's 2010 chances:
- His base hates his guts, are openly calling for a primary, and given the choice would go volunteer for Bill Ritter before Salazar during election season.
- His approval ratings are below 40% according to a Democratic polling outfit.
- He's crooked and has taken questionable campaign contributions that make the Norman Hsu scandal look like nothing.
Maybe that's a formula for winning an election in some parallel universe, but here in Colorado on Planet Earth it appears that Senator Salazar may hit a few snags between now and November of 2010.
