Tom Tancredo told a gathering of the Mountain Republican Women that he intends to seek the 2010 Republican nomination for Governor.
As was speculated at this site, Tancredo's recent tour of state Republican organizations and press events aimed at Bill Ritter are a prelude to a gubernatorial campaign.
Tancredo, if his campaign gains traction, could easily be the proverbial last nail in the coffin of the Colorado Republican Party. He would be running against an incumbent governor who is most vulnerable on fiscal issues, an issue that Tancredo lacks all credibility on following his vote in favor of the $700 billion bailout plan.
An even larger problem is Tancredo's recent tendency to go beyond merely advocating an end to illegal immigration and call for an end to legal immigration as well. When Tancredo launched his quixotic presidential campaign he tossed his lot in with the Buchanans and fully embraced their "culture war" against all immigrants. McCain and Schaffer are facing an uphill battle in this state largely because droves of hispanics who supported Bush in 2004 have been alienated by Tancredo and his heated rhetoric the last four years, putting him up as a GOP standard-bearer in 2010 would cause conservatives and Republicans to be out of power in Colorado for at least a generation.
Update (10/27/08): PolitickerCO followed up with a Tancredo staffer who denies that Tancredo is exploring a gubernatorial run and says that Tancredo was joking. Tancredo did indeed make a joke about running for Governor during his speech to the Republican Women, this report was not based on the joke but rather on direct questioning he received following his speech when he was "working the crowd". Many, if not a majority of the people in the room, heard his responses to the questions after the speech. Unfortunately for Colorado Republicans, a Tancredo candidacy is no joke.

OK, finally, here's the best thing about juicy couture wallet - they are affordable. A lot of designer coach jewelry go for thousands of dollars, even hundreds of thousands. You will get a good Coach for the $500-$1000 range that will give you the same service that any other designer bag would. So if you're into a good bag, and want to save some money, a air jordan collection is exactly the thing to get.

Governor
Are we going to get a real Conservative to run for Governor in this state, or what?!
Please let me know, GOP big whigs. I'd like to know. I'll run, if Tancredo won't.

Go Tancredo! I doubt he'd
Go Tancredo! I doubt he'd even approach Shaeffer's vote totals.
The state needs a Republican candidate with a bit of intellectual power, something other than sound bite policies, and an ability to tell people that it's not all about them. Unfortunately, the Republicans won't nominate anyone like that in the foreseeable future. The base has been fed a steady diet of simpleminded selfishness seasoned with hatred, and it will be tough to wean the party from it.
Tancredo
What a bunch of party-hack jive. If the Republican Party has to go down in the face of the truths Tancredo speaks, then good riddins!
Tancredo for Governor
Its about time Republicans came back to the Right side of the table with a true conservative like Tom Tancredo. The party needs the leadership and Coloradans will seek him out as their Governor because they know he will not hide from difficult issues. He has a record of fighting liberals, liberal Republicans and standing for the rule of law . His record as a fiscal conservative is strong with the bail out vote you mentioned a straw dog......
Republicans struggle because Congress under Republican control, stopped acting like Republicans and tryed real hard to out spend Democrats. (strike One)
Our Presidents leadership and planning on War issues was very poor and a basic "Welcome amigo's" sign on the border hurt the base to its sole. ( Strike Two)
McCain... hmmm. .......better than Obama the Socialist..... so I'll vote for McCain the Liberal Republican who gave us Campaign Reform, Amnesty for Illegal's and how many other "reaching across " the isle deals. The only reaching that was done was McCain standing with Democrats trying to pull a few Republicans over...... (Strike Three)
We need no we demand better Republican, Conservative leadership at the national level and the state level. Live on your knee's or stand and fight with Tom Tancredo and take back the state. A new sheriff is back in town......

Hahahaha! Isn't that the same
Hahahaha! Isn't that the same BS that Tancredo's people spewed about why he was going to be our presidential nominee? How did that work out for him? Would any state even let him on the ballot?
Count me as one El Paso county State Delegate who will vote ANYBODY BUT TANCREDO. Anyone who voted for the bailout in either party deserves to go. Hell, even John Salazar was bright enough to vote against it.
I don't care if its Hank Brown or Josh Penry or Bob Beauprez. I'll take anyone over Tancredo. I used to like him but he got too swept up running around with Bay Buchanan and those other idiots running for president and forgot that WORKING COLORADANS OPPOSE $800 BILLION DOLLAR HANDOUTS!!
Tom Tancredo sold out and
Tom Tancredo sold out and sided with liberal Colorado Reps. DeGette and Perlmutter on the single biggest piece of socialist legislation in U.S. history. I hardly would call that a "straw dog."
